Mesothelioma compensation awarded to family

Chatham dock yard

20 February 2017

The family of a man known only as Mr R has received a significant amount of compensation following his death from mesothelioma, an asbestos-related cancer.

Mr R was represented by specialist mesothelioma lawyer Ewan Tant who was instructed shortly before Mr R died of the lung cancer.

Mr R was exposed to asbestos when he worked as an apprentice painter at Chatham Dockyard in North Kent in the 1960s and 1970s.

Ewan represented Mr R’s widow at the inquest into his death which confirmed that he had died because of his exposure to asbestos.

Ewan was than able to pursue a claim for Mr R’s widow and was able to secure a final settlement for her.

Mrs R said:

“I first met Ewan at home soon after my husband was diagnosed with mesothelioma and he kept us informed of each stage of the process and did his very best to ensure that things ran smoothly.  I sincerely thank him and the team at Leigh Day for not only securing a settlement, but for me, more importantly, an admission of liability.”
