A lawyer who has successfully acted on behalf of victims of burns following hair colouring has warned salons to ensure all staff are aware of the dangers when colouring hair after damages were reportedly paid to a 24-year-old woman by Toni & Guy.

According to reports Becca Peet, from Alton, Hampshire was left with chemical burn injuries and a permanent bald patch on her head following a hair colouring treatment at a Toni & Guy hair salon.

Speaking to the media Ms Peet described what happened, she said: "I was hoping to change my hair colour from dark to blonde with highlights for my 21st birthday celebrations that night.

“When I was having the colouring done my head suddenly felt like it was touching a hot pan that just kept getting hotter and hotter. The foils were steaming and I said that it was burning and asked the girl to stop.

“I was taken to the sink and the foils were pulled out. My head was numb, like when you burn yourself with an iron.”

In a statement released on behalf of the salon, they said: “We see approximately one million clients come through the door of our salons each year. We have a duty of care to every individual.

“This was a distressing situation so we wish to reassure potential and existing clients that all of our stylists, including our Colour Technicians go through a rigorous education based training programme to ensure the highest of standards are met and maintained.”

It has been reported that Toni & Guy have paid Ms Peet a five-figure sum in damages through its insurers but that there was no admission of liability.

Meera Lachani who recently successfully secured damages for injuries caused in another case by a hair treatment product said: “It is imperative that treatment administered at salons is done safely and with due care and attention. A small mistake can result is horrific injuries that can sometimes cause irreparable damage."
