Volvo recalls almost 70,000 cars due to fire risk

It has been reported that Volvo has recalled almost 70,000 cars in the UK due to a fire risk.

Posted on 23 July 2019

The company announced the recall today which affects cars with four-cylinder diesel engines manufactured between 2014 and 2019. The recall is part of a global recall of around half a million vehicles with the same fault.

Volvo have said that in very rare cases a plastic part of the engine has melted and deformed and in extreme cases caught fire.

Volvo is writing to customers to let them know of a the fault and say there have been no injuries recorded so far.

The company has apologised to its customers and said that its cars are still safe to drive as long as they show no signs of problems, including loss of power or displaying engine warning light.

Michelle Victor, solicitor of law firm Leigh Day, said:

“Volvo appears to be being proactive about this recall which is welcomed. A fault which has the potential cause a vehicle fire is clearly very dangerous and manufacturers must take such faults very seriously and do all they can to ensure their customers are made aware.”
