Windrush legal experts roll into Manchester and Liverpool with ‘Stay put: this is your home’ message
Windrush legal experts will be in Manchester and Liverpool this weekend, October 23 and 24, to host a celebration of Afro-Caribbean heritage and meet anyone who has been affected by the Home Office deportation scandal and would like some help and guidance.

Their message, emblazoned on the side of a removals van, will be “Stay put: this is your home”.
The team of lawyers from Leigh Day solicitors will include Jacqui McKenzie, named last week as one of Top 10 most influential black people in the UK, who represents hundreds of people caught up in the Windrush scandal.
Jacqui will have with her Frances Swaine, who set up the first human rights department in a UK law firm, at Leigh Day and paralegals Jerome Bond and Freya Danby.
The team will be accompanied by lawyer, Dave Neita, well known as the People’s Lawyer and People’s Poet.
The lawyers want to listen to the stories of people caught up in the Windrush scandal, to help them be aware of their legal rights and to give guidance on how they can set up a legal claim to get their Windrush compensation.
On Saturday, October 23, the team will be set up at Turing House, 5 Archway, Manchester M15 5RL (Birley Fields) from 10-4pm.
On Sunday, October 24, the team will be set up at 1 Amberley Street, Liverpool, L8 1YJ from 10-4pm.
The venues will be clear by the sight of the “Stay put: this is your home” removals lorry parked right outside.
Throughout both days, the lawyers will be available to speak to anyone who would like to come along for help with their Windrush compensation claim. The setting will be relaxed, with refreshments and crayons and paper for children.
On both afternoons, Jacqui McKenzie will give a presentation, explaining how she has been able to help hundreds of other people affected by the Windrush scandal.
There will also be panel discussions, oral histories and poetry from Dave Neita.
