Bosch issues update on potential fire hazard in some of its dishwashers

Bosch releases figures on number of recalled dishwashers identified and repaired

Posted on 12 March 2013

Consumer goods claims solicitor and Leigh Day partner Jill Paterson welcomes the news that Bosch has managed to find and repair 152,957 of the estimated 632,000 dishwashers recalled by the company as being a potential fire hazard.  Jill, who has recently highlighted the dangers of allegedly faulty fridge freezers manufactured by Beko in the Sunday Times and on national radio and tv, notes that Bosch re-launched an advertising campaign in February 2012 to warn consumers that the control panel on some Bosch dishwasher could overheat and cause a fire.

The affected dishwashers were manufactured and sold in the UK between 1999 and early 2005. The affected dishwashers are in the batch number range from FD 7901 to FD 8504, and are the Bosch, Neff and Siemens brands. Bosch has been running a home repair service on the affected models.

While Jill welcomes the actions that Bosch has taken, she is concerned that a high number of potentially dangerous dishwashers still remain in people’s homes, and that consumers may be unaware of the potential fire threat they pose. Recall UK estimate that over 200,000 dishwashers may still be being used in UK homes. She and her team have settled a number of claims on behalf of people who have been affected by house fires caused by electrical problems with white goods, including dishwashers.
