Clinical negligence lawyers invite mothers and families with maternity concerns to Leeds legal clinic
Following BBC reports of preventable maternity deaths at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals, medical negligence lawyer Suzanne White and her team will be hosting a free drop-in session for mothers and families at the Leigh Day office in Leeds.
Posted on 26 March 2025
The sessions will be held at the Leigh Day Leeds office at 1 City Square, Leeds LS1 2AL (near to Leeds station).
Families and mothers with maternity concerns are invited to call in to meet Suzanne and the team any time between 2-6pm on Wednesday 2 April with no prior booking needed.
Suzanne, who heads the medical negligence department at Leigh Day, will listen to families’ stories with Leeds-based solicitor Matthew Westlake.
In January, the BBC reported that the deaths of 56 babies and two mothers at the NHS trust over the past five years may have been prevented. They further noted that Leeds has the highest neonatal mortality rate in the UK.
Qualified midwife and litigation nurse Sue Austin will also be attending the sessions to listen to families’ stories from a maternity specialist perspective.
The team will also be available to take calls from 6-8pm. To book a remote call with the team, please contact clinnegnce@leighday.co.uk
Suzanne White said:
“My clients often say that they did not reach out for help sooner because they were confused about their experience, and did not know what help was available for them.
“I hope that this clinic will be an accessible space for everyone to get some guidance on birth injury concerns."
Matthew Westlake said:
“It's clear that birth injury in Leeds continues to be a great concern amongst families and mothers. We are keen to provide a safe space where their voices can be heard, and they can access the legal advice that they need.”
