Hotpoint recalls some tumble dryers that present a risk of fire

Hotpoint, Indesit and Creda tumble dryer models subject of safety notice

Posted on 23 November 2015

ITV has reported that Hotpoint has recalled some Hotpoint, Indesit and Creda tumble dryers following safety concerns.

The tumble dryers were manufactured between April 2004 and September 2015. Hotpoint say that excess fluff can come into contact with the heating element and present a risk of fire.

Indesit is one of Britain's biggest domestic appliance firms. According to reports the company has already started to contact some of its customers to warn them not to use their tumble dryers unattended.

Owners are being offered a free repair taking less than an hour, which can be done in the home.  Consumers can check if their tumble dryers are affected on the Hotpoint website.

Jill Paterson from the consumer law and product safety team at Leigh Day, said:

“We are currently investigating a number of cases against Hotpoint, including in relation to fires believed to have started with tumble dryers.

“We welcome the recall but we would be very interested to know when the company first became aware of the problem and what they are going to do to compensate those people affected.”
