Last two weeks to join Jaguar Land Rover diesel particulate filter claim
The deadline for Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) owners to join a claim over alleged defects with the diesel particular filter (DPF) systems in their vehicles is approaching on 3 August.
Posted on 21 July 2025
Tens of thousands of people have already joined the claim, which alleges that defects with the DPF systems in a number of JLR models have resulted in the system becoming prematurely clogged, leading to numerous issues.
The claims are potentially worth thousands of pounds for each claimant.
The issues stemming from a defective DPF system - which is designed to capture soot and other pollutants in a car exhaust system - can include engine damage, greater fuel consumption, more frequent servicing, and a decrease in environmental performance.
It can also lead to ‘limp mode’ being triggered in the vehicle, which limits speed causing an immediate and often unexpected slowing down and a reduction in the vehicle’s value.
The claim relates to certain JLR vehicles purchased or leased between 2015 and 2023. It is understood that defects in these vehicles have resulted in them being unable to burn off enough soot from the DPF system, leading to it becoming prematurely clogged.
The vehicles involved in the claim include the below models:
- Land Rover Discovery (L462)
- Land Rover Discovery Sport (L550)
- Land Rover Velar (L560)
- Range Rover (L405)
- Range Rover Sport (L494)
- Range Rover Evoque (L538 and L551)
- Jaguar E-Pace (X540)
- Jaguar F-Pace (X761)
- Jaguar XE (X760)
- Jaguar XF (X260)
The Claimant Steering Committee (which is managing the claim) is comprised of law firms Leigh Day and Millberg LLP, with Leigh Day representing more than 20,000 clients and Millberg LLP representing tens of thousands of other drivers.
Potential claimants have until 3 August July 2025 to join Leigh Day’s claimant cohort, which was given the go-ahead to be managed as a group action in a hearing last year.
Leigh Day partner Oliver Holland, who leads the claim, said:
“With the deadline now just a couple of weeks away, it is important that anybody who believes they may have been impacted by this issue signs up before the deadline.
“Investigations into these problems have indicated that they stem from issues with the DPF systems in the vehicles. Tens of thousands of people who say they have had problems with their Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles have already signed up to this claim, anyone else wishing to join now has until 3 August to do so.”
