Son appeals for information about dad’s work at Blackburn Aircraft Company following his asbestos-related death

The son of Antony Gower, who worked at Blackburn Aircraft Company in Brough, East Yorkshire, is appealing for information from anyone who worked at the site between 1954 and 1960.

Antony died aged 84 in December 2023, just two months after he was diagnosed with mesothelioma, an asbestos-related cancer.

Antony worked as an apprentice at Blackburn Aircraft Company from 1954 to 1960. During this period, he worked in the toolroom machine shop and in aircraft assembly bays. At the weekends, he spent time rebuilding his car.

Antony was not able to provide much information on his asbestos exposure before he died because he was in poor health and suffering from Alzheimer’s. It is believed his asbestos exposure occurred throughout his apprenticeship, possibly whilst working on the constructions of the Blackburn Buccaneer aircraft.

Antony’s son, Paul Gower, and the asbestos team at law firm Leigh Day would like to hear from anyone who knew and worked with Antony at Blackburn Aircraft Company or was there at a similar time and may be able to confirm they ways in which asbestos was used during this period.

Senior associate solicitor Louisa Saville from Leigh Day said:

“We are looking for people who used to work at Blackburn Aircraft Company at a similar time to Antony who can provide more information about the ways in which asbestos was used in the premises. This information may be vital to his claim.”

If you can help, please email lsaville@leighday.co.uk or call 0161 804 0761.
