Recall announced for Vango and OEX folding gas stoves, included in recommended Duke of Edinburgh Award kit lists
The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has announced the recall of five folding gas stoves.
Posted on 07 June 2024
The stoves have been found to present a risk of fire, explosion and burns as the gas hoses may degrade over time, and could lead to a gas leak or hose ignition.
The gas stoves are:
- OEX Folding Novo Stove
- OEX Folding Savo Stove
- Vango Folding Gas Stove ACXSTOVE DAKZ36
- Vango Folding Stove with Windshield
- Vango Piezo ACXSTOVE DEWZ36
The OPSS has also provided a list of affected productions numbers for the Vango and OEX stoves. They advised that stoves can be returned to Go Outdoors, Go Outdoors Express, Blacks, Millets, Fishing Republic and Ultimate Outdoors.
The Vango folding gas stoves are included on the recommended kit list for the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme. The scheme involves 14 to 24-year-old young people taking part in an expedition where stoves are often used for cooking.
Product safety solicitor Philippa Wheeler said:
“It is worrying that these recalls have been announced shortly before the summer holidays, when lots of young people go on their Duke of Edinburgh’s award expeditions.
“I hope that the recall is circulated widely so that people who own these stoves stop using them and avoid serious and life changing injuries, especially when the stoves might be used in remote areas with little access to medical care.”
