Tesco recalls frozen all butter croissants due to allergy concerns

Tesco is recalling its Tesco Frozen All Butter Croissants six pack due a packaging error as they may also contain Tesco Frozen Almond Croissants, posing a risk to consumers with nut allergies.

Posted on 26 May 2022

A manufacturing error has resulted in the possible presence of almonds in the ‘Tesco Frozen All Butter Croissants x6 (255g)’ packs, caused by the incorrect packing of the almonds products with the butter product.

As a result, the packing information is incorrect and does not mention any traces of almonds. The affected product has a batch code of batch code of LL 111 and a best before date of September 2022.

On 24 May 2022 the Food Standards Agency announced that the product is being recalled and that anyone with a nut allergy who has purchased the croissants should not eat them.

Tesco have released an allergen issue apologising for the error and asking those with almond allergies to not consume the product and to return the affected product to the store where the consumer will receive a full refund.

Leigh Day food safety lawyer Michelle Victor said:

“While Tesco has apologised to consumers and offered a full refund for the product, this does not discount the serious risk posed to those with nut allergies who purchased the product. The packaging labels would not have alerted consumers to the health risks and there would have been no reason for them to assume that the all butter croissants contained almonds. I sincerely hope that those with nut allergies did not consume the product and that the supermarket does considerably better in the future.”
