US safety regulator urges Peloton treadmills owners to stop using immediately

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has said it is aware of 39 incidents involving the Peloton Tread+, reported the BBC.

The CPSC issued the warning on their website which comes less than a month after Peloton issued a statement which said children should stay away from the machines following the death of a child by a Peloton Tread+.

The warning by CPSC told consumers to stop using the treadmill, use the machine in a locked room if they must continue to use it, to keep all objects away from the treadmill, and to unplug the Tread+ when not in use, keeping the keys out of reach from children. The US safety regulator is continuing to investigate all known incidents.

Product safety solicitor at Leigh Day, Jill Paterson, said:

“It is very concerning to hear about the incidents involving the Peloton Tread+ treadmills, especially with the current global pandemic resulting in a rise of people doing workouts at home.

“Despite the warning coming from a US regulator, we know that the product is also popular in Britain and we urge those with young children and pets to follow the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s advice.”
