Castles, aged 59, of Dockray, Penrith was sentenced at Norwich Crown Court on Friday, 17 September, 2021.

He admitted indecent assault offences against boys aged under 14 years and two serious sexual offences against one boy. The offences were reportedly committed in the late 1980s and early 1990s while Castles taught at Glebe House.

The Eastern Daily Press reported that Judge Andrew Shaw said on sentencing: “For nearly all your married life you have been concealing a lie. You have been concealing a monster."

The Cumberland News and Star reported that victim impact statements read to the court included one from a former boarder who was abused from the ages nine to 11. He said: “Not a day goes by without me thinking of what Tyrone did. There is a constant black cloud hanging over me.”

Alison said:

“The lifelong damage inflicted on children by paedophiles such as Tyrone Castles is sadly very familiar to us from the clients we work with. Their stories are painful and traumatic, but their courage in speaking out about the sexual abuse they endured, as in this case, may result in their abuser being brought to justice.”
