Hancock, aged 29, of Beyon Close in Cam, Gloucestershire, was jailed for 16 months at his sentencing at Bristol Crown Court, according to the local news website GloucesterLive.

The offences involved pupils aged 17 and 16. Hancock pleaded guilty to sexual assault and sexual assault on multiple occasions in a position of trust on the girl aged 17. He pleaded guilty to causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, in a position of trust, on the girl aged 16.

It is reported that the teacher groped the 17-year-old and sent lewd footage of himself to the second victim of his abuse.

As well as the prison sentence, Hancock was given a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.

Leigh Day partner Alison Millar, who leads the law firm’s abuse team, said:

“The abuse of position of trust offence means that individuals in certain roles who exploit vulnerable teenagers can face, as in this case, prosecution and punishment. The Positions of Trust law is now being strengthened to cover sports coaches and faith leaders in the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill, which is currently passing through Parliament.”
