Funding our work for you

One of our first jobs when you instruct us is to advise you on the most appropriate way of funding our work for you. On this page you will find some basic information about the most common forms of funding regulatory and disciplinary advice and proceedings.  When you come to instruct us, we will discuss with you in more detail which funding methods might be available to you.

Directors & Officers or Management Liability Insurance (or similar)

Some insurance policies taken out by professionals individually and on behalf of their practices include cover for regulatory or disciplinary investigations or prosecutions. You should check any professional insurance policy in your own name or taken out on behalf of your practice to see whether it includes provision to pay legal advice or representation expenses to cover investigations, prosecutions or both.

Membership Organisation / Trade Union funding

If you belong to a trade union or professional membership organisation, you may have funding for legal assistance as a benefit of your membership.  You should check whether this is the case for you and, if in doubt, contact your union or membership body to confirm if they provide funding.

Legal Expenses Insurance

Some domestic insurance policies (like household contents, buildings or car insurance) and credit card contracts include legal expenses insurance (sometimes called Family Legal Protection). In certain cases, these may cover the costs of legal advice or representation expenses for regulatory and disciplinary matters. You should check any insurance policies or credit card contracts to see whether this this applies in your case.

Private funding

Paying privately means you pay our charges and expenses directly as your case proceeds.

Crowdfunding is an increasingly popular way of funding legal cases and may be a way for you to pay the costs of obtaining advice about or defending yourself in regulatory and disciplinary matters.  There are laws and regulations we need to comply with when receiving money from our clients, so please let us know if you are considering crowdfunding your case before you do so.
