Leading product safety lawyer gives urgent warning about the risks of “so-called skinny jabs” as investigation continues in North Yorkshire
As a criminal investigation is underway in North Yorkshire where a woman became seriously ill after using a weight loss jab, a leading product safety lawyer says anyone considering taking similar medication must be properly warned of the risks.

The woman from Selby was treated in intensive care for suspected internal injuries after using a weight loss injection allegedly sourced from a local salon but has since been discharged, according to the BBC.
Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board said that North Yorkshire Police were notified by health professionals, and that an investigation is continuing.
North Yorkshire Council’s executive member for health and adult services, Cllr Michael Harrison warned that anti-obesity medications which have successfully passed clinical trials are “only available on prescription on the NHS for specific cohorts of patients and through specialist weight management services”.
Sarah Moore, a partner from the product safety team at law firm, Leigh Day has said that: “So-called skinny jabs appear to be rising in popularity in the UK, but they are a form of medication so come with risks as well as any potential benefits. As such it is vital that they are sourced and prescribed properly.”
She added that: “reports continue to emerge of individuals being hospitalised because of weight loss injections, and this appears to be especially prevalent where jabs have been purchased from online platforms or through non-NHS providers. More needs to be done to support those who feel they need to take this medication, and to properly regulate providers”.
Anyone who believes they have had an adverse reaction to a weight loss injection, should seek appropriate medical attention.
