Abuse claims lawyer welcomes investigation into allegations of historic abuse in Rhyl Sea Cadets

Abuse claims lawyer Andrew Lord, who represents a client who suffered abuse while in the Sea Cadets, has welcomed a police investigation into allegations of sexual abuse connected to the Rhyl detachment of Sea Cadets.

The investigation by North Wales Police was reported this week, with officers appealing for information in strict confidence.

The offences are alleged to have been committed between 1978 and 1989, and are connected with the Rhyl detachment of the Sea Cadets, between 1978 and 1989.

Leigh Day abuse team solicitor Andrew Lord said:

“As a solicitor who represents a client who has survived abuse that happened while in a different Sea Cadets detachment, I am glad to see that North Wales Police are investigating the latest allegations of sexual abuse.

“Abuse of trust that occurs to young people in uniformed organisations can take a lifetime to recover from. It is hugely important that anyone who has experienced such an abuse of trust is able to see that the police are addressing this issue.

“I encourage anyone who has experienced abuse in Rhyl Sea Cadets detachment to contact the police and also to seek legal representation.”
