Daughter appeals for help in late father's asbestos claim
Man dies before seeing his claim for alleged asbestos exposure against his former employers come to court - daughter appeals for former colleagues to come forward

A woman whose father died before seeing his claim for alleged asbestos exposure against his former employers come to court has appealed for witnesses to help her carry on his claim.
Michele Turner’s father, David Turner, was diagnosed in May 2015 with mesothelioma, an asbestos related cancer which can take many decades following exposure for symptoms to appear. David, formerly of Bangor-on-Dee in North Wales, sadly passed away as a result of the disease on 25 February 2016, aged 83.
His death came just days after his claim was served on Balfour Beatty PLC, successors in title to British Insulated Callendar Cables (BICC) Ltd who were David’s former employers. They deny liability for David’s condition. Michele is now taking forward the claim on his behalf.
David worked for BICC Ltd from 1971 until his retirement in 1992. He worked in the company’s factory in Wrexham, north Wales. Before his death David instructed law firm Leigh Day to investigate his allegations that while working in the factory he was exposed to asbestos insulation on the pipework and equipment and through the air vents and that this caused his mesothelioma.
In March 2015 David felt a pain in his chest and a swelling to his back and was referred to hospital for further investigations. He was diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma and his health soon deteriorated, requiring Michele to move in with him in order to provide care. Although his condition improved following a course of palliative radiotherapy it began to deteriorate again at the end of last year.
Michele said: “A year before his death my father was a fit and active man but the cancer quickly attacked his health and left him weak and unable to care for himself. Anyone who has information that can help determine why and how this happened to my father I would ask you to please come forward and help us with this case. ”
Helen Ashton, of law firm Leigh Day, is instructed on behalf of Michele to take forward her father’s claim. Ms Ashton added: “We are appealing to anyone who has any information about the presence of asbestos in the BICC Ltd factory in Wrexham between 1971 and 1992 to get in contact with us.”
