Former marine engineer receives substantial damages after being diagnosed with mesothelioma

Substantial compensation secured for marine engineer with mesothelioma

Asbestos lawyers secure compensation for marine engineer

7 April 2014

Bill Humphrey worked as a marine engineer engaged in ship building and repair work and was frequently put into environments that were riddled with asbestos. Unfortunately, it was the culture at the time to offer no protection to workers who inhaled harmful asbestos fibres. He therefore reported asbestos exposure from this work with the following companies:

  • Shell Tankers Ltd
  • Canadian Pacific Steamship
  • Hunting & Son Tankers
  • Cunard Steamship
  • Shaw Saville & Albion Ltd
  • Townsend Car Ferries (now P&O Ferries)

As a result of this asbestos exposure, about two years ago, Bill experienced a pain in his ribs, which was later followed by shortness of breath. After undergoing some tests, he was diagnosed with mesothelioma, which is an asbestos related cancer of the lining of the lungs.

Given his diagnosis, we urgently advanced matters on his behalf and were able to procure admissions of liability on behalf of all of the above companies. Following negotiations, we were able to secure substantial damages for Bill.

Bill was represented by asbestos claims lawyer Vijay Ganapathy. If you would like to speak to a member of the asbestos and mesothelioma claims team please contact them on 020 7650 1200 or, if you prefer, fill in our enquiry form and someone will get back to you shortly.
