Paralegal – Human Rights

Leigh Day is seeking to appoint a Paralegal to join its highly regarded Human Rights Department. This is a varied role, working on claims for abuse and / or mistreatment, both cases of non-recent childhood sexual and physical abuse and cases of current abuse or neglect in health, education and social care settings.

Key tasks and responsibilities will include:

• Supporting the qualified fee-earners at client meeting and taking thorough and accurate notes,
• conducting legal research,
• reviewing and analyse sometimes voluminous background records and preparing summaries for the supervising fee-earner,
• producing accurate documents such as witness statements and instructions to experts,
• assist with billing and recovery of legal costs,
• proactively organising legal professionals’ schedules and offering administrative support.
 
To be successful you must have:

• a genuine interest in human rights law and passionate about providing justice to access for all,
• relevant knowledge and / or interest in this area of law (the area of sexual and physical abuse),
• demonstrable experience in drafting legal documentation and correspondence, sorting and reviewing medical and financial records,
• excellent ability to deal sensitively with vulnerable clients, building trust and confidence and taking witness statements,
• proven ability to communicate accurately, clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing with a wide range of clients and various stakeholders,
• proven ability to organise and prioritise a complex workload and work to tight deadlines whilst maintaining a positive attitude,
• excellent communication skills, demonstrated by ability to communicate accurately, clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.

Paralegal – Consumer Law & Product Safety

Leigh Day is seeking a Paralegal to join its highly acclaimed Consumer Law and Product Safety Department.

Main Duties and responsibilities;
The role will be supporting the team with drafting various documents, client liaison including interviewing clients and taking witness statements, research work, assisting with providing preliminary advice on causation /quantum, assist with negotiations and provide general administrative support. Responsibilities will also include sorting and reviewing updated medical and updating medical chronologies. Specifically, the work will involve representing clients who have had hip components that have failed prematurely. The role will also involve helping to research and develop new areas of practice for the firm.

To be successful you should have;
• Demonstrable relevant paralegal experience in drafting clear concise legal notes and correspondence.
• Excellent academic background with legal qualifications (Degree, GDL, LPC etc.).
• Experience in interviewing clients and taking witness statements, dealing sensitively and managing difficult conversations.
• Proven ability to communicate accurately, clearly and concisely with a wide range of clients and stakeholders.
• Experience in using a variety of IT Packages (MS Word, Excel, Case Management Systems, Outlook)
 
This is a Permanent, full-time position based in London.
