Scout Association settles case for childhood sexual abuse
A survivor of childhood sexual abuse has reached a settlement with the Scout Association, following abuse perpetrated by former Beaver Scout Leader, Jason Asthana.

The abuse occurred between 2009 and 2010 when the client was a young member of a local Scout group. Asthana, who held a position of trust within the organisation, used his role to isolate and abuse the client on multiple occasions.
The abuse was disclosed in 2011, following which a police investigation was launched. Asthana was convicted of sexually abusing the client in 2012 and sentenced to four years in prison at Hove Crown Court in 2013.
Now an adult, the client instructed Leigh Day partner Dino Nocivelli to bring a claim against the Scout Association for the harm they suffered. The Scout Association entered settlement negotiations without the need to start court proceedings to issue the claim.
The case was resolved against the Scout Association with a financial settlement, and a written apology was provided to the client.
Dino Nocivelli, partner at Leigh Day said:
“Our client has shown immense bravery in pursuing justice for the abuse they suffered as a child. This settlement, including the formal apology, is a step to recognising the harm caused the abuse. We hope this outcome encourages other abuse survivors to seek the closure and justice they deserve”.
