Meriel is a partner in the group claims team
Meriel is a partner specialising in group claims. She has extensive experience bringing claims on behalf of large groups of people who have been wronged and have suffered losses as a result of the failings of large corporations, in particular focusing on harm to consumers, individual investors and pension holders and anti-competitive conduct.
She is currently acting on behalf of claimants in the Diesel Vehicle Emissions Group Litigation, one of the largest group claims in this jurisdiction. She was the lead partner representing a group of over 14,000 individual investors in the Woodford Equity Income Fund in their High Court claim to seek compensation from the fund’s authorised corporate director; and she acted for two university academics in their challenge to the UK’s largest private pension scheme’s investment in fossil fuels.
Meriel has a background in commercial litigation and arbitration, specialising in complex and high value international disputes, with previous experience advising clients the banking and international trade sectors.
Legal expertise
Meriel began her career as a solicitor at Stephenson Harwood LLP, a commercial law firm based in London and with offices across Europe, Asia and the Middle East, specialising in international commercial disputes and acting for a diverse range of clients including banks and companies in the international trade sector.
In 2019 Meriel moved to a litigation specialist law firm, Enyo Law LLP, where she gained further experience working on largescale and high value international disputes.
She joined the group claims team at Leigh Day in January 2021.
Meriel graduated from Oxford University in 2011 with a first-class degree in History.
She has also recently obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Economics for Competition Law at King’s College London with merit.
