Leading consumer lawyer warns UK households may still be using potentially dangerous tumble dryers following recall
A leading consumer lawyer has warned that many households may still be using potentially dangerous heat pump tumble dryers after a regulator issued a warning for tens of thousands of people with the appliances.

After the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) warned as many as 85,000 tumble dryers manufactured by Chinese multinational company Haier should not be switched on, Leigh Day partner, Jill Paterson said continuing to use them could have “devastating consequences”.
According to the regulator, the models are at heightened risk of an internal short circuit, which could cause the tumble dryers to overheat and catch fire, telling owners they “must stop using affected appliances immediately”.
It added that, if possible, the tumble dryers should be unplugged from the wall, to further reduce the risk.
Owners have been urged to check their serial number and model type online on the regulator or manufacturer’s website to see whether their machine needs a repair.
The OPSS warns that some models may not have come directly from Haier. Households have also been told to check tumble dryers from:
- Baumatic
- Candy
- Caple
- Hoover
- Iberna
- Lamona
