Appeal for information about alleged abuse by ex-Berkshire GP

He is now 56 and has instructed Leigh Day partner Alison Millar to bring his case.

Borthwick, 78, was practising as a GP at surgeries across West Berkshire in the 1970s and 80s. In 2023, a jury at Reading Crown Court ruled that during this period he sexually abused our client, who was aged just nine years old when the abuse began. The boy was never a patient of Borthwick’s.

Borthwick was unfit to stand trial and so the case against him proceeded as a trial of the facts, which found that he had committed the acts of abuse. The judge ordered an absolute discharge, stating that this was the only option available in view of Borthwick’s health difficulties.

The judge commented that this was not in any way a reflection of the pain and suffering Borthwick caused and commended the survivor of his abuse for having had the strength to make a complaint to the police.
