Shaimaa Al-Mukhtar

Shaimaa Al-Mukhtar is a final seat trainee solicitor in the abuse team in the human rights department.

Shaimaa joined Leigh Day in 2023 and assists Dino Nocivelli representing survivors of sexual, emotional and spiritual abuse. She works on cases brought against both individuals who have abused positions of power and institutions that have failed to protect children suffering abuse. These civil cases include abuse in education, boarding schools, sports, religious institutions and in family settings. 

In her first seat, Shaimaa worked in the clinical negligence department on high value claims involving birth injuries, brain injuries, spinal injuries, neonatal deaths and delays in diagnoses and treatment.

Before joining Leigh Day, Shaimaa worked on issues of domestic violence, immigration detention in the UK and on cases of trafficked women held in unlawful detention abroad. She has previously worked in charities and NGOs including the King’s Trust, Bail for Immigration Detainees and Reprieve.

She holds an undergraduate degree in Politics with Management from Queen Mary, University of London, an MSc in International Management (Middle East and North Africa) from the School of Oriental and African Studies, a Graduate Diploma in Law and Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice with distinction from BPP Law School.
