A user's guide for disabled sports fans

As any fan knows, football isn’t just a game. It’s very much a part of life; the anticipation on a Saturday morning is second to none and a result can often dictate your mood for the rest of the weekend. As the league season gets underway, football fans are flocking to stadiums across the country.

But if you have a disability, supporting your team may not be so easy. As recent interventions by organisations like Level Playing Field, United Discriminates, and the Equality and Human Rights Commission have highlighted, many grounds have woefully inadequate accessibility. And it’s not just about being able to get into the stadium; the quality of the experience inside is just as important.

This guide offers practical tips on the things football clubs should be doing to ensure that the needs of disabled fans are met. Where football clubs fail to meet these needs it may amount to unlawful discrimination and you may be entitled to make a claim under the Equality Act 2010
