Cardiff-based partner Julia Reynolds will be holding a legal clinic to hear families' individual stories, following the announcement of an independent inquiry into Swansea maternity care.
The legal clinic will allow families in Swansea to access independent legal advice on birth injury experiences.
The clinic will be held on Monday 21 October from 10am to 4pm at The Village Hotel, Langdon Road (off Fabion Way) SA1 Waterfront, Swansea, SA1 8QY.
The clinic is free to attend with no booking required.
The announcement comes following news that more than 70 families who claim that they were harmed by maternity care in Swansea are set to launch a family-led maternity review.
Senior midwife Donna Ockenden commented that there had been a failure to “engage effectively with families” who had been “so badly affected [and] have had their harm and distress compounded by the way they have been treated.”
Julia Reynolds, who specialises in medical negligence and heads up the Leigh Day team in Cardiff, highlighted the value of independent advice for families noting that “families want individual answers in individual cases.”
Leigh Day medical negligence partner Julia Reynolds said:
“In my work, I speak to families regularly who feel like no one ever explained why something went wrong. They often feel ignored and confused. This only compounds the harm done. It is vital that families have a chance to tell their stories and have those stories listened to. It is an essential part of our role that families get the answers to their questions.”
