Nathaniel Martindale is a senior associate solicitor on the travel team.
Nathaniel is a senior associate solicitor who specialises in international travel litigation. Nathaniel acts exclusively for claimants who have sustained serious injuries abroad and for foreign nationals who have sustained serious injuries in the UK.
Legal Expertise
Nathaniel has experience of dealing with a wide range of cases including skiing accidents, road traffic accidents, public liability claims, employers’ liability claims, assault, sexual assault, fatal accidents as well as claims arising from boats and aeroplanes.
He often deals with tricky legal issues including establishing the appropriate law which may apply to a claim as well as the most appropriate jurisdiction for a claim to be pursued. He deals with foreign jurisdiction cases as well as cases pursued under the Package Travel Regulations.
Nathaniel has experience of dealing with claims of the upmost sensitivity and severity. He has acted on behalf of families in situations where a loved one was been fatally injured abroad. He has also acted on behalf of clients with serious injuries including brain injury, amputations and severe psychological injury.
Notable cases include:
- Acting on behalf of a large family (30 claimants) following a fatal road traffic accident which occurred in Greece and securing significant compensation.
- Acting in a case where a claimant sustained a significant above-knee amputation following a road traffic accident in Spain.
- Acting in a case which was the first jurisdictional challenge post-Brexit, which was attempting to determine whether a claimant injured in a skiing accident in France should have their case heard in English or French courts.
- Acting on behalf of a client who sustained a severe traumatic brain injury following a slip on an oil spill in the Isle of Man, leaving the client with life-changing injuries.
- Acting on behalf of a client who suffered with a below-knee amputation in a cycling accident in France.
Career
Nathaniel has worked in international travel litigation exclusively since 2016 as a Trainee Solicitor and then upon qualification as a Solicitor in 2017.
Nathaniel began his career at Plexus Law in 2012, working with the Travel Team since 2016. He then moved to Irwin Mitchell LLP as an Associate in their International Injury Team in 2023 before joining the Travel Team at Leigh Day in 2025.
Memberships
- Nathaniel is a Committee Member for the New Lawyers’ Group, which is a special interest group of the Pan-European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers (PEOPIL). The Committee organises an annual conference in Europe for its members dedicated to legal education and networking.
- Nathaniel is on the Planning Committee for the International Injuries Section of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL). The Committee organise an annual conference.
