Former carpenter receives settlement after contracting lung cancer mesothelioma

Asbestos lawyer Daniel Easton has settled a claim for his mesothelioma client

Asbestos lawyer settles case for carpenter

22 December 2014

Asbestos lawyer Daniel Easton acted for Mr B who was diagnosed with mesothelioma, an asbestos related cancer, at age 54.  He had been exposed to asbestos as an apprentice carpenter with an Oxford-based building firm in the late 1970s.

Despite the fact the risks of exposing workers to small amounts of asbestos was well known by the late 1960s, the defendants fought the case on liability and we had to push the matter to a Court hearing in order to obtain a judgement in our client's favour.

The defendants then continued to argue that our client may have exposed himself to asbestos when he subsequently worked on a self-employed basis and that remained a point of argument throughout the course of the case.

Specialist asbestos lawyer and Leigh Day partner Daniel Easton said:

“We pushed the case forwards and eventually reached a favourable settlement a few days before the case was due to go to trial.”

Daniel’s client said: “With thanks to Daniel for the professional and caring way he handled my case with a great outcome.”

Leigh Day are specialists in asbestos and mesothelioma claims.  Our lawyers handle all our cases as quickly as possible using a fast-track court system, but we remain sensitive to our client’s needs and try to impose on them as little as possible.
