17 more Stafford Hospital families receive compensation

Leigh Day lawyers successfully settle more neglect cases at Stafford Hospital

Stafford Hospital

3 August 2011

Leigh Day human rights solicitor Emma Jones was interviewed on BBC Radio Stoke yesterday about the latest group of cases that she has settled on behalf of families whose loved ones received inadequate and substandard care at Stafford Hospital. A Healthcare Commission report published in March 2009 estimated that between 400 and 1200 people had died unnecessarily at Stafford Hospital because of the ‘appalling’ standards of care provided at the hospital.  When taking details from the families of loved ones who had been admitted to Stafford Hospital, Leigh Day lawyers heard many stories or abuse and neglect.

Emma Jones said:

“We were delighted with the outcome of the recent settlement meeting.  For our clients the fact that we achieved settlement goes some way to helping them to obtain some closure.  The settlement represents recognition by the Trust that our clients, or their loved ones did not receive appropriate treatment and care.”

A Leigh Day client said:

“Our family’s experience of Leigh Day is one of excellence in all aspects with regard to the collection and collation of information in our case - professionalism with empathy throughout and commitment and resolve to achieve the correct legal outcome”.
