Unsafe air fryers can have “devastating consequences” warns product safety lawyer following Tower recall
A product safety solicitor has warned there can be devastating consequences when unsafe air fryers malfunction after the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) announced a recall for several Tower air fryers.

Owners of six types of air fryer have been urged to immediately unplug and stop using them, because there is a risk they could cause a fire.
The regulator said the affected models were sold by high street and online retailers including Argos, B&M Bargains, DID, Poundland, Robert Dyas, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and the Tower Housewares website.
The recalled models are:
- T17023 Tower 2.2Ltr Manual Air Fryer
- T17061BLK Tower 4Ltr Manual Air Fryer
- T17067 Tower 4Ltr Digital Air Fryer (Sainsbury’s SKU: 143897281)
- T17087 Tower 2Ltr Compact Manual Air Fryer
- T17129L Tower Vortx 8L Air Fryer (Lidl)
- T17129 Tower Vortx 8L Air Fryer (Argos)
The OPSS warned these models, manufactured between January 2022 and April 2023, can overheat and ignite, potentially leading to catastrophic consequences such as serious house fires, burn injuries or even fatalities.
Tower has opened a website for consumers to check whether their model is recalled. The manufacturer also said they will offer refunds or replacements.
Philippa Wheeler, a product safety solicitor at Leigh Day said:
“As air fryers have grown in popularity, they have become a staple in kitchens across the country. It is vital that anyone who owns a Tower air fryer checks their model number against the recalled list. This is yet another reminder of how unsafe electrical equipment can have devastating consequences if it fails. People deserve confidence that the products they bring into their homes are rigorously tested and won’t put their families at risk.”
