Lawyers from Leigh Day’s environmental law teams have contributed a chapter to the seventh edition of the Legal 500’s Environment Comparative Guide.
In the Legal 500 chapter, Leigh Day lawyers provide answers to key questions about environmental law and regulations in the UK.
The firm’s environmental law expertise is contributed by staff across the public law and international group litigation departments, where the firm’s solicitors share decades of experience.
Leigh Day’s public law team work across a variety of environmental cases related to planning and administrative law. Over the years, this has included challenges to developments such as airport expansions or fossil fuel extraction plants, which led to the landmark ‘Finch’ Supreme Court ruling in 2024, as well as challenges to government policy and its application.
The firm’s international group litigation team also work across a large spread of environment cases. This includes a case fighting river pollution in the rivers Wye, Lugg and Usk, which is the UK’s largest ever environmental group claim, and investigations into chemical pollution from PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in towns across the country.
The Legal 500 chapter was authored by the firm’s partners Ricardo Gama, Sarah Moore and Oliver Holland, as well as senior solicitors Carol Day and Celine O’Donovan.
Sarah Moore said:
“The Legal 500 Environmental Comparative Guide is an excellent opportunity for Leigh Day to showcase its expertise in public and private environmental law claims. It will hopefully interest those in practice who have not undertaken such work before. The work undertaken by the environment team at Leigh Day across multiple departments and specialisms is incredibly wide ranging, and we’re proud of the contributions our lawyers have made. With this chapter in the Legal 500, we hope to be able to share some of the expert knowledge the team holds.”
