PERSONAL INJURY LAWYERS

‘Personal Injury’ covers any injury you may have suffered at work or travelling by bicycle, motorbike, car or as a pedestrian, or just in any public setting whether in this country or abroad.  Leigh Day acts on behalf of individuals who have suffered a serious injury when it wasn’t their fault.

You may also be a family member or carer for someone who has been seriously injured and looking after their best interests. We can help you and the injured person you are caring for.

For injuries which occurred in a healthcare setting, you will want to speak to the Leigh Day clinical negligence team.

Our clients’ injuries range from those who have sustained serious orthopaedic damage, psychological injury, and  life changing events following limb loss or brain and spinal injuries.

If you are not sure whether we can help, please call us on 0800 6895854 and we’ll ask a few questions to help you decide whether we can assist you with your claim.

The department has specialist teams, each of these teams is a leader in their field:

Cycling claims

Our cycling team handles hundreds of claims every year.  For the last 17 years we have provided legal services to British Cycling and British Triathlon members.   We act for more cyclists than any other firm in the country. Many of our cycling team are keen cyclists themselves.  Wherever we can, we aim to get clients back cycling as quickly as possible.

Work Injury and Industrial Diseases

The team acts for people injured whilst doing their job in claims against their employer. It also recovers damages for people who have been diagnosed with asbestos related disease. This deadly substance was banned in the 1990s but because it takes many years for asbestos disease to develop,  all our clients are diagnosed many years after they were exposed to asbestos.  This raises unique issues in pursuing claims which we are expert at dealing with.

Travel claims

We act for many clients who are injured whilst on holiday or travelling abroad. The law  in this area is complex as it requires an understanding about which country’s law applies and where a claim can be brought. We have a recognised team of travel law experts who bring claims on behalf of clients injured around the world.

Brain and Spinal Cord injuries

When our clients have suffered severe injuries to their brain or spinal cord, our focus is on supporting our and , providing much needed guidance to our client and their family.  We know how to use the legal process  to maximise our clients’ rehabilitation and secure funds to prevent financial hardship.

Road traffic collisions including pedestrians

We deal with serious injuries caused by collisions on the roads, one of the biggest killers in this country and the largest cause of more serious injury.

Knowing who to act against, using expert analysis of a collision scenes and providing a detailed overview of current and future losses, allows us to provide financial security to those injured or the families of those killed, alongside the support and care we pride ourselves on.

Our focus is to get the best result we can  for our clients using the litigation process to enable clients to get the best possible recovery they can achieve.

How do I make a claim?

Contact us on 0800 6895854 as soon as possible to find out whether you can make a claim.

You will be asked a series of questions by a member of our specialist team, in confidence always.  We will then assess whether you have a  claim, this initial assessment is free of charge.

Most of our cases are taken on a no win, no fee basis and  some through home insurance, which may contain legal cover.  These is little legal aid for personal injury work but we will always advise you on the best way of funding your case.

Before agreeing to take a claim forward we will explain fully how your claim is funded.  Usually if your claim is successful the other side, the defendant, pays your legal costs, with a capped percentage coming from your compensation award.

If your claim is unsuccessful, you pay nothing.

How long do I have to make a claim?

It is usually three years from the time when you were injured or the date of diagnosis of a disease.

Some clients are regarded as protected parties  This includes children and clients who have lost mental capacity. Special rules apply to time limits when acting for a protected party.

We have specialist lawyers who have experience representing protected parties and who understand the special requirements the court makes in these cases.
