Paralegal – Employment

Leigh Day is urgently seeking to hire a Paralegal within the Employment Department in Manchester. 
 
Key Tasks and responsibilities will include:
• Effectively assisting in the progression of a large group claim (against the DWP) and ensuring that accurate information and instructions are obtained from our clients
• Accurate recording of information that is gathered in line with existing protocols
• Dealing with general litigation of the case including interviewing clients and witnesses, managing processes and protocols and corresponding with other solicitors and the tribunal and courts
• Complying with the Civil Procedures Rules and Employment Tribunal Rules & Procedures
• Some work assisting in the progression other group claims and/or individual matters as required

To be successful you must have:
• An interest in working with a leading claimant law firm is a must along with a strong understanding and appreciation of Leigh Day values and ethos.
• A legal qualification (LLB or LPC) or significant experience in providing legal advice
• Experience of at least six months of paid employment
• Demonstrable experience of working with vulnerable individuals
• The self motivation required to assist with group claims

Paralegal (with experience) – Personal Injury

Leigh Day is seeking an experienced Paralegal to join the Personal Injury Department in our Manchester office. This role offers a great opportunity to build a legal career and work on recent high profile cases.

Key duties and Responsibilities;
• To manage a caseload of predominantly fast-track personal injury claims on behalf of injured cyclists; 
• To obtain accurate information and instructions from clients, analyse the legal and practical aspects of their claims and obtain the necessary documents/evidence to provide advice on liability/quantum/costs & funding.
• To analyse and advise on strategy, tactics, and how best to achieve the most successful outcome for each client according to the particular circumstances of their case.
• To progress claims to settlement, conducting litigation through to trial or earlier settlement.
• To ensure court directions are complied with.
• To comply with the Civil Procedure Rules.

To be successful you must have;
• Experience in running a caseload of litigated and unlitigated fast-track Personal Injury cases.
• Genuine interest to work with a leading claimant law firm and passionate about providing access to justice.
• Strong academic background. The ability to deal with clients in a sympathetic and compassionate manner.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• The ability to manage own workload in an organised and methodical manner.
• Demonstrable experience in using a variety of IT packages (MS Word, Excel, Case Management Systems, Outlook).
• The ability to work well as part of a team

This is a permanent, full-time position based in Manchester.

Kiswahili Speaking Paralegal – International

Leigh Day is seeking a Kiswahili Speaking Paralegal to join the International Department in our London office. This role offers a great opportunity to build a legal career and work on recent high profile cases. 

Key duties and Responsibilities;
• Assist with drafting letters and other documents under supervision, analysing documents and data, client liaison, research work, general correspondence and administrative support.
• Regular travel abroad in order to take client instructions, trips with experts and to take witness evidence.
• Thorough and accurate note-taking at meetings and preparation of file notes.
• Administrative duties as and when is required to include arranging meetings, booking meeting rooms, hotel accommodation and international travel arrangements, including security, visas and medical requirements.

To be successful you must have;
• Solid understanding of litigation procedures.
• Fluency in Kiswahili and English with excellent Kiswahili speaking skills is essential.
• Relevant legal qualifications (LLB or GDL with LPC or demonstrable litigation experience is preferred).
• Excellent communication skills, demonstrated by ability to communicate accurately, clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
• Proven ability to organise and prioritise a complex workload and work to tight deadlines whilst maintaining a positive attitude.

This is a 6 month FTC, full-time position based in London.

Paralegal – Personal Injury (Asbestos Team)

Leigh Day is seeking a Paralegal to join the Personal Injury Department in our London office. This role offers a great opportunity to build a legal career and work on recent high profile cases. 

Key duties and Responsibilities;
• Assist with drafting documents, client liaison, research work, general correspondence, assistants with procedures relating to costs collections and administrative support.
• Sort and review medical and financial records, liaise with medical professionals, financial institutions and other solicitors.
• Thorough and accurate note taking at meetings and preparation of file notes.
• Preparing court and other documents for the approval of the fee earner.
• Undertake other ad-hoc duties as required from time to time.

To be successful you must have;
• Relevant paralegal experience in Personal Injury and/or Asbestos work.
• Experience in sorting and reviewing medical, financial records and drafting legal documentation and correspondence.
• Good academic background with legal qualifications (Degree, GDL, LPC etc.).
• Experience in interviewing clients, taking witness statements, dealing sensitively and managing difficult situations and conversations.
• Proven ability to organise and prioritise a complex workload and work to tight deadlines whilst maintaining a positive attitude.

Paralegal – Regulatory & Disciplinary Department

Leigh Day is seeking to appoint a Paralegal to join its vibrant Regulatory & Disciplinary team. The team arose out of the successful defence of the SRA’s high profile action against the firm by the SRA between 2014 and 2018 and specialises in defending other solicitors and firms against investigations and prosecutions by the SRA. We believe regulated professionals should have legal advice and representation at least as good as their well-resourced regulators. We also offer strategic advice and consultancy to law firms, professionals and their businesses across a range of specialisms and disciplines.

Key tasks and responsibilities:
• Working with senior fee earners to provide a reliable and efficient service in assisting with casework, marketing activities and general administration
• Drafting and reviewing documents
• Case / file administration
• Conducting legal and evidential research

To be successful you must have:
• A genuine ambition to work with a leading law firm, high levels of motivation and commitment to ensuring access to justice for all
• Relevant legal qualifications (LLB/GDL/LPC/LLM/MA in law or relevant field)

Paralegal – Consumer Law and Product Safety

Leigh Day is seeking a Paralegal to join its highly acclaimed Consumer Law and Product Safety Department.

Main Duties and responsibilities;
The role will be supporting the team with drafting various documents, client liaison including interviewing clients and taking witness statements, research work, assisting with providing preliminary advice on causation /quantum, assist with negotiations and provide general administrative support. Responsibilities will also include sorting and reviewing updated medical and updating medical chronologies. Specifically, the work will involve representing clients who have had hip components that have failed prematurely. The role will also involve helping to research and develop new areas of practice for the firm.

To be successful you should have;
• Demonstrable relevant paralegal experience in drafting clear concise legal notes and correspondence.
• Excellent academic background with legal qualifications (Degree, GDL, LPC etc.).
• Experience in interviewing clients and taking witness statements, dealing sensitively and managing difficult conversations.
• Proven ability to communicate accurately, clearly and concisely with a wide range of clients and stakeholders.
