Leigh Day investigating concerns about contamination at Malkins Bank in Cheshire

In July 2026, a Guardian investigation highlighted historical records relating to waste disposal at Malkins Bank, as well as ongoing concerns raised by local residents and former site users.

Public records show Malkins Bank Golf Course was designated as contaminated land in 2011. The site has continued to be used for recreational purposes while monitoring and management measures have remained in place.

The Guardian says the site has been the subject of discussion for years, including questions about historical landfill activity, groundwater pollution and the management of contamination risks. Its investigation detailed historical documents relating to waste disposal practices at the site and concerns about the long-term impact of contamination.
