Paralegal – Clinical Negligence

Leigh Day is seeking to appoint a Paralegal to join the Clinical Negligence Department. Reporting directly to a Clinical Negligence Partner, the role will involve;
- Obtaining accurate information and instructions from clients in order to achieve the most successful outcome according to the particular circumstances.
- Communicating with clients on the telephone in an efficient manner, whilst being approachable and professional to ensure an excellent client relationship.
- Ensure filing is kept up-to-date and correspondence is kept in the file, whilst paying attention to detail and accuracy.
- Utilising I.T. to ensure a quality and efficient service is maintained with clients.

To be successful you must have;
- Demonstrable relevant clinical negligence or complex personal injury paralegal experience within a law firm is a must.
- Good academic background with legal qualifications (Degree, GDL, LPC etc.) and/or medical qualifications.
- Demonstrable experience of interviewing clients in order to take witness statements, with the ability to deal with sensitive conversations with a strong commitment to client care.
- The ability to utilise Microsoft Office programmes, with demonstrable experience of using Practice/Case Management Systems.
- The ability to manage own workload in an organised and methodological manner.
- A good understanding and appreciation of Leigh Day values and ethos.

Paralegal – Human Rights

Leigh Day is seeking to appoint a Paralegal to join its highly coveted Human Rights (HR) Department. Bringing together a mixture of public law, civil liberties, discrimination, health and social care expertise, our lawyers act for individuals, groups and organisations across a wide range of legal areas particularly relating to health and social care, education and employment, the rights of prisoners, abuse survivors, those with disabilities and rights relating to the environment. To learn more visit Human Rights Department.

Key tasks and responsibilities;
- Working with a Partner and team that represents individuals, groups and organisations and routinely brings challenges against public authorities (such as government bodies, local authorities and agencies), in a range of areas such as discrimination, civil liberties, human rights breaches, environmental law, planning law, EU law and community care.
- Assisting with drafting documents, client liaison, general correspondence and administrative support such as organising legal professionals’ schedules.
- Taking client instructions, instructing experts, liaising with counsel and other solicitors and draft LAA funding applications and claims for costs.
- Produce accurate documents from verbal or written instructions.
- Conducting legal and evidential research.

To be successful you must have;
- Highly motivated with a genuine interest in human rights law and passionate about providing justice to access for all.
- Some relevant experience in human rights, public law, judicial review and/or legal aid, CFA and PCOs will be highly advantageous but not essential.
- Demonstrable experience in drafting legal documentation and correspondence, sorting and reviewing financial records.
- Demonstrable interest in social campaigns, civil liberties and international/domestic conflicts.
- Demonstrable ability to build trust and confidence with vulnerable and marginalised client group, interviewing clients and taking witness statements.
- Proven ability to communicate accurately, clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing with a wide range of clients and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage tasks independently, organise and prioritise a complex workload and work to tight deadlines whilst maintaining a positive attitude and attention to detail.
