Leigh Day has been invited to speak to the Thornton-Cleveleys community about potential legal action against AGC Chemicals.

Thursday 21 May 2026
17:00 - 19:00
Thornton-Cleveleys Football Club

We would like to thank the community for having us to speak at a community meeting on Thursday 21 May 2026, where we will be presenting what legal solutions may be available to the community to deal with AGC Chemical’s pollution of Thornton-Cleveleys. We will also be hosting PFAS experts to explain what recent testing results mean for the community.

The following experts will speak at our meeting:

  • Dr Tony Fletcher – Tony has been working on studies of the health effects of PFAS since 2005, including in PFAS-exposed communities in the Mid-Ohio Valley USA, where Tony worked on the C8 Panel to help assess the links between C8 exposure and a number of diseases.
  • Dr David Megson – Dave is an environmental chemist and an expert on PFAS. Dave primarily works in the fields of analytical chemistry and environmental science.
  • Sarah Moore – Sarah is the Partner leading our Environmental Law team in Leeds and the North. Sarah specialises in large multiparty group actions on behalf of claimants based in the UK and overseas across a wide range of issues including environmental and product liability claims.

At the meeting, we will be discussing:

  • The impact that AGC Chemical’s activities and pollution have had on Thornton-Cleveleys from local voices;
  • We will interpret the results of Environment Agency testing with our PFAS experts;
  • The health impacts of PFAS and how these might be mitigated;
  • The potential legal action that can be taken by the community in response to PFAS contamination;
  • Who will be able to join a potential claim against AGC Chemicals; and
  • Our offer of PFAS blood testing to select residents who sign up to the legal action.

There will also be an opportunity to ask questions to our expert panel at the end.

Leigh Day continues to investigate issues surrounding the alleged contamination of allotment plots situated near AGC Chemicals plant in Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire.

Wyre Council announced in July 2024 that it had, in conjunction with the Environment Agency, launched an investigation after discovering the probable release of the chemical perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) by AGC Chemicals Europe Ltd, and previously Imperial Chemistry Industries Ltd (ICI), at a site in the area.
