Electrician receives compensation after contracting mesothelioma from inhaling asbestos

An electrician who worked near pipes lagged with asbestos has received substantial compensation after being diagnosed with mesothelioma

15 January 2014

Leigh Day has recovered substantial damages for an electrician who was diagnosed with mesothelioma as a consequence of his past exposure to asbestos.

Our client worked with a number of different companies where he was exposed to asbestos, but not all of them could be traced as the companies had gone out of business and disappeared.

Leigh Day successfully managed to locate insurers for two of his former employers and issued court proceedings against them, successfully recovering compensation from the insurers to Bromley LS Electrics Ltd and FACE Macanda Ltd.

As an electrician, he worked near asbestos lagged pipes in the early 1980’s and was then again later exposed in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s at Dover Harbour Board when he was working around asbestos materials during the installation of electrical appliances.

Sadly the amount of asbestos he inhaled subsequently resulted in his diagnosis with mesothelioma and after a 12 month legal battle to establish liability against the companies, an out of court settlement was agreed just before Christmas 2013.
