At Leigh Day, we have more than 35 years’ experience dealing with abuse and exploitation claims. Our ongoing work representing survivors of abuse cases in the UK includes victims of sexual abuse, excessive restraint and failure to remove negligence claims.

Below, you’ll find a selection of the institutions that our specialist team are currently investigating or have recently settled a claim against. If you have any information that may assist with our investigations, we would be grateful if you could contact us to discuss this further.

Should you believe you’ve been a victim of abuse in a school, care home or any other local authority, we’re here to help. Request a call today and one of our specialist team will be in touch to discuss your case, provide advice and guidance where we can.

CICA claims

We have successfully represented abuse survivors in actions against individual perpetrators and in Criminal Injury Compensation Authority (CICA) claims.

Schools

We’ve worked extensively on child abuse investigations linked to schools across the country for more than 30 years. Our team of specialist abuse solicitors have dedicated their time and expertise to cases including:

Residential care homes

We’ve worked on behalf of adults with learning difficulties and other incapacitations living in residential care homes, after allegations of abuse came to light. Our previous work supporting claims and investigations of abuse at residential care homes include:

  • Bramblings Residential Care Home, Kent
  • Chebsey Close (North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust)
  • Wentworth Croft Residential and Nursing Home
  • Winterbourne View

Children’s care homes

At Leigh Day, we’ve supported child abuse investigations at children’s care homes. These aimed to establish the extent of the harm such behaviour has caused for previous residents and to hold those responsible to account. Some of the cases we’ve worked on include at:

  • Conewood Street, Islington
  • Elwood Street Children’s Home, Islington
  • Gisburne House, Islington
  • Grafton Close, Richmond
  • 114 Grosvenor Avenue, Islington
  • Lambeth Redress Scheme (various homes)
  • New Century Road, Essex
  • New Park House / Cuffley, Hertfordshire
  • Wisteria Lodge

City councils

In some cases, we’ve determined that councils at a town, city or borough level should be held to account following an investigation into abuse cases in the UK. Some of the previous cases we’ve worked on include against:

  • Barnet, Enfield & Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust
  • Gloucestershire County Council
  • Essex County Council
  • London Borough of Barnet
  • London Borough of Bexley
  • London Borough of Enfield
  • London Borough of Haringey
  • London Borough of Islington
  • London Borough of Sutton (Dean House Children’s Home)
  • Sandwell MBC

Local authorities

Leigh Day has also worked on cases of abuse involving local authorities such as NHS Trusts, territorial police forces and other organisational bodies. Such investigations to date have included:

Religious settings

Unfortunately, even religious settings such as churches and cathedrals are also subject to claims of abuse, which Leigh Day have tackled. These include:

  • Southwark Cathedral

Youth and sports authorities

Some non-recent abuse claims have focused on authorities and organisations tasked with supporting the development and wellbeing of young people in various sporting, leisure and youth-based disciplines. Such abuse cases like these have previously meant holding to account:

  • Crewe Alexandra Football Club
  • English Karate Federation
  • Marine Cadets
  • The Scout Association
  • Sea Cadets
