Liberty Bridge

Liberty is a senior associate solicitor in the international group litigation department.

Liberty works on international cases involving multinational corporations where human rights abuses have been alleged.

Liberty joined Leigh Day as a trainee solicitor in 2016. She trained in the international department and completed a six month secondment at Amnesty International.

Legal expertise

Liberty is currently representing over 10,000 Malawian tobacco farmers and their children in their claim against British American Tobacco and Imperial Brands in respect of claims of forced and child labour on farms allegedly supplying tobacco to the companies.

Liberty also represents Nepali and Bangladeshi migrant workers who worked at factories in Malaysia which manufactured products and components for Dyson in relation to allegations of forced labour and exploitative living and working conditions.

She was also part of the legal team who obtained a landmark judgment on jurisdiction and parent company liability, in the case of Lungowe & Others v Vedanta Resources Limited & Konkola Copper Mines which involved alleged environmental pollution in Zambia.

Previously she worked on a claim on behalf of a Bangladeshi man who was severely injured whilst working in the shipbreaking yards of Chittagong, Bangladesh and on behalf of 141 Sierra Leoneans in a legal action against Tonkolili Iron Ore Ltd regarding claims the company was complicit in human rights abuses by the police (Kadie Kalma & Others v African Minerals Ltd & Tonkolili Iron Ore (SL) Ltd).

Prior to joining Leigh Day, Liberty interned at the AIRE Centre assisting to prepare submissions to the ECtHR. Whilst completing her Legal Practice Course, Liberty worked at Doughty Street Chambers, running all aspects of Edward Fitzgerald KC’s practice. Liberty completed her LLB at the London School of Economics and has an LLM in International Human Rights Law from Birkbeck University.
