Asbestos Asbestos and mesothelioma

Georgia is an associate solicitor who specialises in industrial disease claims. She works closely with Steven Dickens in the Manchester Office.

Georgia acts for individuals who have been diagnosed with asbestos-related diseases, including mesothelioma, asbestos-related lung cancer, asbestosis, and pleural thickening. She acts for victims all across the country, in particular in the Greater Manchester area and the North East of England.

Beyond representing her clients, Georgia has worked with many of the asbestos victim support groups and charities across the country by attending regional meetings and fund-raising events.

Legal expertise

Georgia has successfully secured settlements for clients who have been exposed to asbestos through their work in a wide range of industries including shipbuilding, construction, and engineering. She has also brought claims on behalf of individuals exposed to asbestos outside of their work, such as from dust brought home on the clothes of family members.

Georgia works closely with her clients and their families to achieve results that suit their individual needs. This includes securing:

  • Interim payments to provide her clients with vital funds to cover their immediate costs, such as to pay for private medical treatment or essential home adaptations.
  • The provision of funding for the ongoing cost of private medical treatment in the future (including immunotherapy and chemotherapy treatments which are not available on the NHS).
  • The right to return for further compensation in the future if their condition deteriorates or they develop a different asbestos-related condition.

Georgia recently secured a substantial settlement for a gentleman suffering from severe disablement due to asbestosis. The Claimant lived alone in a home which was poorly suited to his needs. His life expectancy was extremely limited by his illness. Georgia acted quickly to negotiate settlement in his lifetime. The compensation award enabled the Claimant to make necessary adaptations to his home and implement a care package so that he could be supported as his condition progressed.

Georgia successfully represented the family of a man who died from mesothelioma. His diagnosis was not made in lifetime and was missed on post mortem. Georgia obtained extensive medical evidence to build the case on diagnosis.  As a result, she was able to prove that the deceased had developed mesothelioma and the claim settled shortly afterwards.

In addition to handling her own cases, Georgia has assisted Steven Dickens on a variety of complex and high value claims.

Georgia helped to achieve settlement for a gentleman in his 50s who developed mesothelioma as a result of exposure to asbestos from brake linings in the 1980s. The Claimant had an usual presentation of his disease and the Defendant disputed that it was mesothelioma. The Defendant also contested the claim on causation and breach of duty. Despite the Defendant’s staunch opposition, the claim was successfully settled and significant compensation was recovered.

Georgia has also successfully pursued claims for compensation against the T&N Asbestos Trust which was set up to compensate former employees of the Turner & Newall group of companies. She has brought claims under both the individual review and expedited review procedures.

Georgia has specialised in asbestos disease claims since qualifying as a solicitor in September 2023.

Prior to qualification, Georgia trained in the Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury departments at Leigh Day.

Georgia was awarded 1st class degree in Jurisprudence (Law) from the University of Oxford, finishing in the top 5% of her class. She went on to obtain a distinction in her master’s degree focusing on Law, Business, and Management.
