What is the Jaguar Land Rover diesel particulate filter claim?

Monitoring shows that Jaguar Land Rover has fitted certain diesel vehicles with "defective diesel particulate filter systems (DPF) systems". This may have impacted the safety and environmental performance of the vehicle. Soot also contributes to air pollution meaning the vehicles are less likely to meet advertised environmental standards.
