Bozena Michalowska Howells's Profile Picture
We're Leigh Day and we believe everyone has the right to justice and for their voice to be heard.

Bozena specialises in international group claims and product liability cases.

She has worked on a number of the firm’s international group claims including the cases brought on behalf of South African and Swazi asbestos mine and mill workers against the UK multinational companies Cape plc and T&N. She represented Bangladeshi victims of arsenic poisoning in a ground-breaking claim against the Natural Environment Research Council. She also represented war time Poles now living in the UK, in their compensation claims against the German government and German companies for forced and slave labour during the Second World War. She speaks fluent Polish and has strong links with the Polish community in Great Britain.

Bozena initially worked with senior partner Martyn Day on his major group claim against tobacco companies on behalf of lung cancer sufferers. She is now the leading partner in the product liability team, which has had considerable success in the very difficult area of defective drug claims. She has specific expertise in respect to defective orthopaedic product claims having successfully conducted proceedings on behalf of the DePuy Hylamer Action Group in their group action product liability claim against the manufacturers of defective artificial hip components, and also on behalf of Trinidadian clients bringing claims under the 3M Capital Hip Protocol for compensation for failed hip replacements due to defective components. Bozena is the leading solicitor in the DePuy ASR Recall litigation.

Bozena trained with Amhurst Brown Colombotti and on qualifying remained with this firm as an assistant in the Commercial/Civil Litigation Department. She joined Leigh Day in 1997, and was made a partner in 2003.
