Payout after accident at work

11 January 2010

Leigh Day & Co has recovered £9500 compensation for Mr Pilat as a result of an accident at work.

Mr Pilat was injured whilst at work when he slipped from a piece of plywood partially covering a trench. Mr Pilat along with his colleagues was instructed by his employer to stand on the plywood in order to manoeuvre a steel support beam into the side of a house.  Mr Pilat was positioned nearest the exposed end of the trench.

As Mr Pilat and his colleagues started manoeuvring the beam into place, Mr Pilat slipped and fell into the trench striking his right knee at the bottom of the trench sustaining injury to his knee.  Mr Pilat was unable to return to work for two months.

Mr Pilat instructed Leigh Day & Co’s Polish team to act on his behalf.   Leigh Day & Co’s full time in-house Polish interpreter assisted Mr Pilat in understanding the process involved in bringing a claim against an employer in the UK.

We were able to obtain a medical report with recommendations for future treatment and we were able to claim Mr Pilat’s lost earnings, travel expenses,  care and future treatment costs in addition to compensation for the injury itself.

Zahra Nanji commented:

“There is no need for accidents such as Mr Pilat’s to continue happening. There are very clear regulations and guidelines in place to prevent such obvious and avoidable accidents occurring at work.”
