Gas explosion man recovers damages

7 October 2009

Leigh Day & Co has successfully recovered compensation for the victim of a gas explosion as a result of the injuries he suffered when his neighbour’s house exploded in April 2007.

John Nichols was at home on 23 April 2007 in Malmesbury when workmen negligently re-connected an open-ended gas supply to his neighbour’s kitchen. The accumulated gas was ignited, most likely by an electrical spark, resulting in massive property damage and blowing Mr Nichols off his feet down a staircase. He suffered cuts and bruising and the impact of the explosion unfortunately resulted in a psychological injury.

Mr Nichols instructed partner, Daniel Easton, in the personal injury department to act on his behalf and after a securing an admission of liability from the defendant construction company he obtained an early interim payment to assist Mr Nichols financially. A negotiated settlement was achieved in August 2009.
