Megan George: Trainee in the medical negligence department

Having worked as a paralegal assisting those who had suffered catastrophic injuries, combined with a strong interest in social justice, I knew that I wanted to work for a Claimant law firm who fight for justice for individuals and communities. This is what first attracted me to Leigh Day.

Reading about Leigh Day’s cases inspired me and I set my heart on training at the firm. I was not initially successful but did not let that hold me back.

I am currently six months into my first seat in the Medical Negligence department where I have been given the opportunity to work on a wide range of cases. My team is incredibly supportive and encourage questions and ideas. Each day brings a new challenge; from grappling with medical terminology, to attending conferences with Counsel, clients and experts. Last month I attended a liability trial for a high value claim, a rare and invaluable experience.

Leigh Day has a genuinely inclusive atmosphere and a strong sense of community. We are encouraged to bring new ideas to the firm through a mixture of events and committees, as well as giving our time to help the community through charitable events.

It was a long journey to get to where I am now. It took several gruelling years of training contract applications and interviews on top of a full-time paralegal role, but looking back it was worth it to have a chance to work for a firm in which there is a true belief in fighting for justice for all. I am grateful for all the experience I gained along the journey and the knowledge that if you believe in something it is worth fighting for.
