Bozena specialises in international group claims and product liability cases.

Bozena specialises in product liability group actions. She initially worked with senior partner Martyn Day on his major group claim against tobacco companies on behalf of lung cancer sufferers.

Since then she has developed specific expertise relating to defective medical devices, particularly hip replacements. She conducted proceedings on behalf of the DePuy Hylamer Action Group in their group action product liability claim against the manufacturers of defective Hylamer artificial hip components and also acted on behalf of Trinidadian clients bringing claims under the 3M Capital Hip Protocol for compensation for failed hip replacements due to defective components.

Bozena now heads up the firm’s metal on metal hips team and is currently the lead solicitor in group actions against the manufacturers of the DePuy ASR component which was recalled in August 2010 and the DePuy Pinnacle Ultamet Total Hip Replacement. She is also currently investigating claims in relation to a number of other components including the Finsbury Adept.

Bozena also has expertise in claims relating to pharmaceuticals; she successfully brought claims on behalf of Parkinson’s disease patients suffering from the side effects of dopamine agonist drugs used to control their symptoms but who subsequently developed pathological gambling behaviour and on behalf of a group of claimants who have suffered depression and suicidal ideation as a result of the Diet Drug.

Bozena has also worked on a number of the firm’s international group claims including the cases brought on behalf of South African and Swazi asbestos mine and mill workers against the UK multinational companies Cape plc and T&N. She represented Bangladeshi victims of arsenic poisoning in a ground-breaking claim against the Natural Environment Research Council. She also represented war time Poles now living in the UK, in their compensation claims against the German government and German companies for forced and slave labour during the Second World War. She speaks fluent Polish and has strong links with the Polish community in Great Britain.

Bozena trained with Amhurst Brown Colombotti and on qualifying remained with this firm as an assistant in the Commercial/Civil Litigation Department. She joined Leigh Day in 1997, and was made a partner in 2003.
