The family of a man, known only as Mr P, has received compensation following his death from asbestos cancer, mesothelioma.

Mr P was diagnosed with mesothelioma at the age of 75.  He had been exposed to significant amounts of asbestos when he worked as a driver for a firm that manufactured asbestos roofing felt.

Mr P approached Leigh Day asbestos solicitor Daniel Easton to act for his in a claim against his former employer shortly before he died.

When Daniel met Mr P in his home he could not remember being exposed to asbestos but Daniel was able to trace two former co-workers of Mr P who remembered that he would have come into contact with asbestos when working as a driver.

Mr P had to assist in loading asbestos roofing felt as part of his job as a driver, and also had to walk through the production area, which was thick with asbestos dust, to check when deliveries where ready for delivery.

Daniel then tracked down insurers for the company that Mr P had worked for, and started a claim for compensation against them.

At the inquest into Mr P’s death it was confirmed that he had died because he had been exposed to asbestos.

Daniel then continued with the claim, instructed experts and carried out extensive research into the type of work Mr P had done.

Daniel successfully secured a settlement for the widow and estate of Mr P.

Mrs P said:

“Thank you for your excellent work in a sometimes difficult case.  I have already recommended you to another potential client, and will do so again.”
