Cyclist injured on way to work receives compensation

Richard Matthews was successfully represented by Leigh Day & Co's cycling team

Cycling to work

30 October 2008

British Cycling member Richard Matthews has successfully settled his damages claim which arose from a road traffic collision which occurred as he was cycling to work along Barley Lane on the 18th April 2008.

The incident occurred as Richard approached a junction to his left and a motorist suddenly pulled out of the junction and turned right onto Barley Lane. Richard tried to move towards the centre of the road to avoid a collision, but unfortunately the motorist accelerated into Richard’s left leg, consequently throwing him from his bicycle.

Richard suffered an injury to his left leg and both shoulders as a result of the collision and his bicycle, cycle helmet and clothing were also damaged.

The motorist admitted liability for the incident and Richard received compensation for his injuries, property damage and other consequential expenses.

Richard was represented by Anna Hart in Leigh Day & Co’s cycling and sports injuries team. His claim was supported and funded by British Cycling.
