Asbestos lawyer settles mesothelioma claim for former construction worker

The family of a man who was exposed to asbestos in the 1970s has received compensation

Crane operator

10 June 2015

Asbestos lawyer Daniel Easton has successfully concluded a case for a gentleman who developed mesothelioma as a consequence of heavy asbestos exposure during his employment in the construction industry in the 1970’s.

The man  worked as a crane operator for nearly 10 years with Sir Robert McAlpine, as well as suffering exposure from working on asbestos brake pads and clutch discs.

In 2013 he started to develop respiratory symptoms which severely affected his mobility.

He instructed mesothelioma claims solicitor Daniel Easton at Leigh Day in July 2014 and we issued court proceedings against his former employer less than two months later.

Sadly, our client succumbed to his illness shortly afterwards, but we went on to conclude the case on behalf of his family after the Defendant admitted liability for negligently exposing him to asbestos.

While the claim  was not concluded in our client’s lifetime, we did manage to assist him in securing payments from the Government during his lifetime to assist him financially.

Our client’s family said:

“May I thank you so very much for all your hard work and the help you have given us but, most importantly, the kindness, friendliness and help you gave to my brother.

“He had great respect for you and he knew you were a man of integrity and would do the best for him.

“You were also straight with him (and us) pointing out the likely outcomes (both positive and negative) and we are very grateful for that, and for your advice.  We are also very impressed with the way you conducted things, with sympathy and compassion, and also the kindness and good humour you showed.”
